Limitations for Threaded Comments Jira Cloud

These are known limitations for Threaded Comments for Jira.

Defaulting comments tab to Threaded Comments

At present, Threaded Comments cannot be set as the default activity tab due to limitations within Jira Cloud. Currently, there is no global setting available for admins to specify which activity tab is selected by default when users load an issue. We have submitted a feature request to Atlassian to introduce this functionality, but it is not yet available.

Rendering images and links

Threaded Comments cannot render media or links within an editable comment in the same way as base Jira functionality. This limitation arises from the comment box component provided by Atlassian, which is unable to function without access to internal Atlassian-only APIs.

Search

There is no Threaded Comments search. Please use default Jira Search only.

Comment issue on transition (workflow function)

When transitioning an issue, you cannot automate a reply using a threaded comment.

Maximum number of comments per issue

There is a limit of 1000 comments per issue.

Customers will not see Threaded Comments in Jira Service Management portals

In Jira Service Management, Threaded Comments are only available to agents on the agent screen. Customers and portal users will not see Threaded Comments.
